The Clay, Water, Chalk series is made by casting plaster into the irregular, spontaneous tracks created by working my hands through clay. Their holes both disrupt and connect. I like playing with negative spaces and juxtaposing textures, contrasting smooth surfaces against haphazard shapes; like the smooth interior of an oyster shell and its opposing, encrusted exterior, or sea-worn pebbles and coral spikes.
The resulting forms are reminiscent of the chalk rock-pools of the Sussex coast and the crags and caves contained within them are ready to be explored.
